Description:
In this 6-week workshop series, facilitated by master dancer and
choreographer Wyoma, we will form a sacred circle for exploring who we
are as creators through African healing dance. African dance is much more
than physical movement—it is a direct way to celebrate life and to create
healing. From the movements of nature, of animals and elements, and
everyday life, the peoples of Africa developed specific dances to summon the
energy of the world around them into their bodies for connection and healing.
Dances and movements of the cycle of life, improvisation, and yogic
techniques are also integrated. As a facilitator of the African healing
dance, Wyoma creates the space and provides the vehicle for spiritual
and emotional healing through the dances of Africa. Participants who would
like to bring instruments are encouraged to do so. Comfortable clothing for
dancing is recommended. No dance experience is necessary—this is the
dance of life.
