Greetings drummers and dancers --
We have some good news -- Camp Fareta, Youssouf Koumbassa's weeklong West African drum and dance camp in California, is ON! We lost our grant this year so we weren't sure if we could make it happen, but we've found some ways to cut costs, plus airfares right now are way low -- so for those outside of California, it's a great time to book a flight and join us!
Here's the deal: the dates are July 12-19. Confirmed dance teachers are Youssouf Koumbassa (teaching every day), Mariama Camara, Moustapha Bangoura, Abdoulaye Sylla, and Djeneba Sako. Confirmed drummers are M'Bemba Bangoura, Fode Bangoura, Mangue Sylla, and Amara Mansare. More will be added as time goes on and as we get a sense of our likely attendance.
Check http://www.dancingvillage.com/camp_fareta.php for details on past camps. We hope to get the website updated soon, with teacher names and registration info. And here's a link to the front-page article in the local paper, the Fresno Bee, last year: http://www.fresnobee.com/907/story/727866.html
As usual, we'll have Kids Camp for the young ones, work-exchange, some beginner-level classes, fun evening events, and a gourmet international menu that campers continue to rave about. The camp has a lake for swimming and boating and it's near Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks, so it's a beautiful vacation for nature-lovers too!
So give thanks, spread the word, and get ready for another great year of Camp Fareta!
Peace and best wishes to all,
