[Wadabo_updates] Serving the Spirits: An Introduction to Haitian Vodou

Dear African Dance & Music Community,
Take this opportunity to learn more about the religious culture
that informs much of Haitian dance and music arts...

SERVING THE SPIRITS: AN INTRODUCTION TO HAITIAN VODOU
a two-part workshop series taught by
Bon Manbo Marie Maude Evans
of
Jacmel, Haiti and Mattapan (Boston
), MA
Sunday, March 9 and Sunday, April 13
1:00PM-5:00PM  ----  $50 per day

Vodou is a religion of service--service to God, to the spirits, and to our ancestors.  Manbo Maude will draw on her extensive experience to give an extended introduction to the practice of Haitian Vodou.   Topics will include: the major Lwa (spirits), their attributes, and how to communicate with them; how to begin serving in your own home; and how to make a simple altar.

Manbo Maude has over fifteen years of experience as a priestess.  She recently conducted the first Vodou service at
Harvard University.   This is a rare opportunity to receive practical instruction from an expert on Haitian Vodou. Workshops will take place in Mattapan (Boston), Massachusetts (accessible by public transportation).
