Experience Afro-Brazilian culture through dance! Bahia is a distinctively African influenced state in Brazil renowned for its contributions to Brazilian culture. A variety of musical and dance styles from Bahia will be covered, including afoxé (an homage to Yoruba deities), samba (a syncopated, frenetic, hip-shaking dance) and axé (a percussion-driven concoction of samba, reggae, jazz and spiritual music). The energy and vibrancy of Afro-Brazilian dance is an excellent full-body workout, so please wear comfortable clothes. Randi Henry is a featured dancer for the Brazilian Cultural Center of New England.
