BIO: Coura N'Diaye was born and raised in Dakar, Senegal. As a child Coura enjoyed dancing and it was no surprise when she received a more formal education from Mansa Gueye, director of the National Ballet of Senegal. After arriving in the United States, she formed Sunugal Ballet in 1998 to promote and perform Senegalese dance in the Bay Area. A small subset of Sunugal Ballet performed in People Like Me 2002: Face to Face! She has performed in numerous venues and festivals internationally, including the 2001 San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, the 1999 Juneteenth Festival in Oakland, and the Santa Cruz Ethnic Arts Showcase. She has also collaborated with other Senegalese performers, including international acclaimed singer, Youssou N'Dour, in addition to other performers residing in the U.S., to produce the Keur Khaley Cultural Dance Concert in Oakland, CA. in 2000 and 2001.

[Wadabo_updates] Lamine Toure - Dance & Drum classes

Dear African Dance & Drum Community,

Moha and/or Paa will continue to teach Lamine's sabar drum classes
while Lamine is away in Senegal. However, due to the upcoming
holidays, they will wait until after new year's to start up classes
again. So the first drum class will resume on SATURDAY, JANUARY 5 at
noon; after that, drum classes will continue as usual (Saturdays at
noon, Monday evenings at 6pm). Please come out to support their drum
classes in the month of january!!

Thursday dance classes at Dance Complex will continue as usual.

Alisco is a master Doundoun and sangban player.  He has toured internationally and played with Les Ballets Africains, Les Merveilles d'Afrique, and Ballets Soleil.  He immigrated to the United States in 1995 with the award winning Les ballets Merveilles under the directorship of Kemoko Sano, renowned Les Ballets Africains Choreographer and Artistic Director.  Alisco continues to travel throughout the United States and Canada performing, teaching workshops and master classes.

Lacina teaches a unique blend of European Modern techniques & traditional styles from his home country, Burkina Faso, West Africa. In the US, Lacina's approach could be compared to that of Ronald K. Brown or other artists who strive to develop a fusion of  Modern & African Diaspora dance techniques and aesthetics.
